villa beaurepaire - a community within a community
Are you thinking of selling your house and downsizing? Would you prefer to stay in Beaconsfield? Are you currently alone in your apartment or house and would appreciate more social interactions? We have the perfect solution for you. Villa Beaurepaire is a non-profit, community-managed seniors’ apartment that was built with you in mind.
The building is home to 50 autonomous seniors living in 2-bedroom, 1-bedroom and a few studio apartments. It is a place where seniors can live independently with peace of mind, while at the same time sharing in a strong sense of community. Unlike other autonomous retirement residences, tenants have an official say in the management of the building via tenant representation on the board of directors.
Villa Beaurepaire was an idea initiated by the Beaurepaire United Church that came to fruition almost 9 years ago. They receive financing from the Société d’habitation du Québec to keep the rents affordable. More than 50% of their apartments are rent subsidized while the rest are just below market rent.
Included in the rent is one mid-day meal Monday to Thursday and breakfast on Fridays. This gives you a great opportunity to connect with your neighbours while enjoying a nutritious, full course meal. The Social Coordinator organizes fun events, outings and allows you to choose what interests you.
It is also conveniently located within walking distance to beautiful waterfront parks and the Beaurepaire Village, where you will find everything you need, including: a bank, medical clinic, café, restaurant, pharmacy, hardware store, garage, depanneur, art gallery, to name just a few of the services and merchants nearby.
Several of the tenants at Villa Beaurepaire have been able to take advantage of the proximity of long-term care facilities for their ailing spouses. The Beaconsfield community supports seniors by way of 10 care homes, offering more choices to seniors who have lost their autonomy than any other West Island community.
"My husband needed more help than I could provide at home," one tenant explained. "I was at my wits’ end and didn’t want to face going into a care home myself. I was thrilled when I learned I could move to Villa Beaurepaire while my husband could live in a full-service home within walking distance of my apartment.”
Ask the tenants and they will tell you what makes life at the Villa work for them. According to one tenant, "We share our stories; we learn from each other about how to navigate this important transition in our lives and how to celebrate our new life with optimism and joy— it’s a supportive community within a great town.”
"I’m very happy to have made my landing in a soft place like the Villa," says June Frezell.
"I feel safe and comfortable at Villa Beaurepaire, and I already know that I have made life long friends here," says Beverly Maisonneuve.
Elsie Greco said she feels fortunate to be able to live in such a warm and caring environment. "I am so thankful to be living here, where I’ve met people whom I now call friends. Hopefully this will be my home for a long time!”
